Many movies of the same type are much diffirent than they used to be. For example: Disney movies. Anyone seen those old Disney movies(one movie that comes into mind is the one with Kurt Russell eating breakfast cereals that make him strong)? As much as i know, that genre is entirely lost. Disney movies/cartoons have much diffirent jokes now(Compare those old ones with Shrek, Ice Age and Emperor's New Groove). What do you think?

Yes, noticed that. I remember watching Shreck with my kid (9 y.) and the adult audience ("adult" by years only, I'm sure ) were laughing twice as much as the kids did. I think that humor has matured in new cartoons and not all of them are made with young children in mind. Like that joke from Shreck when they return to Felmer's (?) castle and while looking at that huge phallic construct comment smt. along the lines "do you think he's compensating for more than just his height ?"

Not to forget Burton's A nightmare before Christmas, which stars all-around magic-mythical characters and is very much adult oriented.

Part of the difference in family movie format might be because children are maturing at a much younger age than they used to. Some of the movies that are rated PG-13 now would have been rated R 15 years ago. It's the same with a lot of television programs. When I was little, they didn't say butt, jackass, crap, or a few other phrases that are common in prime time television now. I've gotten so used to it that I think it's ridiculous when my parents take back a movie unwatched (even when their grandsons aren't there) because there was a lot of bad language in it.

Actually, I've read about this. Jim Henson was a big proponent of a mixed humor philosophy - where the goal was to tell jokes or present funny situations that would entertain the young on one level and the old on another. He simply wanted to get families to watch things together. It's no secret he became very intertwined with the Disney folks late in his career and entrusted the ownership of the Muppets label and characters to Disney, as he felt they bought into this philosophy and would carry it forward.

It's been around for a while. Go watch Disney's Aladdin: When Aladdin tricks the Genie into getting him out of the cave without wasting a wish ("I bet you can't" was the tactic) and the informs the Genie he still has 3 wishes, you see the Genie, turned into a lamb with a blue face, its ass pointed at the camera - and he says "Okay you baaaa-ad boy, but no more freebies."
