I usually play a male character, but as for my party preference I would surround myself with women in BG1, but as for BG2, there weren't enough good female characters.. With the expansion, I hope to return to the bliss that was before...

I usually go for a 50/50 mix of gender in my party, with a female PC. However in BG2 I ended up playing males as my PC more often because I kept trying to get all the way through a romance with one of the female characters.. wanted to see how they ended. Never did complete one tho.

I love the character interactions in that game!

Well I have to say I am biased towards males. On IWD I have 4 characters in my party, where one was a female (named after my g/f). The rest were males.
Us guys gotta stick together!

My main character is always male, purely to make roleplaying easier as I'm male and then the rest of the party will be fifty-fifty pretty much. I like having female characters around, more realistic than all one gender. And good to look at of course. My current Bg2 party is 2 males and four females. In might and magic 7 I have three out of four as females because their paper dolls look good.

In my very first game of BG I I played Ariana (mc fighter-thief) and I liked it. But from there on I have always played male pcs - mostly Ramones lol - I don't really know why, maybe because it is easier to identify with a pc of your own gender. As to female fighters: I like and use them, but only in the more versatile style of a Jaheira or a Mazzy. I couldn't really picture them in a brute strength type role of a Minsc. But I could understand it very well if others, especially female players, wanted that type of female fighters, after all theses are fantasy games and they invite us to explore aspects beyond the limits of RL.

( Bilqis, ma'am, I have seen your new dragon. It is an impressive one and the new caption is not too shabby either - although I, of course, still prefer your other ingeniously funnisophical one. But why did you choose a dragon and not Hedwig ? )

So long !

R³ - new, much improved signature under construction !
