I don't blame you, considering the 'pressure cooking' education system endorsed in contemporary Singapore.

There has been some debate as to whether women should be conscripted as well, something which might be implemented at a future date. They do it in Israel but that place is a warzone.

Largely agree. That's why I see NS basically as a necessary evil.

In other news, I want women to serve NS too. They need not take the same route as us guys, but there are many non-combat roles that women can take, and I see no issue as to why they should not serve. That is the only stickling point I have with NS, why guys only?
No opinion here. But I suppose if someday the need should be widely felt for gals to join NS too, then such a thing will come about.

Personally I don't like the idea of soldier gals, though. Tomboys -- ugh.

Like I've said, I'm glad I came across this thread a couple hours after dinner. (Three hours by now, actually.)

This is the misconception I am trying to clarify. Whenever I talk about NS for women, people start thinking about gals in gear and packing heat. Nada, that is not what I had in mind.

I was thinking more along the lines of non-combat and minimal-physical roles that women can partake in the army. I am not being a bigot though, if some women want to rough it out in the Infantry section, then by all means do.

Roles like field medics, field intelligence, tank drivers, helicopter pilots, etc... ...

Everybody can have a role in the army.

Yes. How about gals dressed in camouflage leotards and baring their butts and thighs in the field. You know, like that gal named Cammy?

And I suppose their role is to distract the enemy?

And possibly our own men.

No, only the enemy, Dundee. That's why they belong to the special forces -- they're deployed only in enemy territory, so our men won't see them.
