I heard the mutton curry can be indistinguishable from the sweet and sour fish.

NS is way behind me now. Gladly.

You look forward to serving NS?? Are you a masochist or something??

I prefer vegetarian food.

I had a very sadistic Scoutmaster in secondary school. ;Ž As me and my friend often joke( and apparently it seems we are justified since he is serving now), whatever happens in NS, we will just chant to ourselves...

"It could have been worse if it had been Weilong. It could have been worse if it ~~"

I think the main reason why the average Singaporean male is so apprehensive about National Service is not because of fear of military life or 'leaving mommy' but the oppurtunity cost involved. You could get a degree in the time taken to do NS.

I suppose it's called 'Positive Thinking'. Good on you, Dundee.

That is true too, and it does suck that we will be nearly 30 before we finally settle down so to speak, but I think the logic behind having NS is reasonable. I will freely admit that I am apprehensive about whether I will be able to continue with my studies in an Uni after NS( one can forget a lot of things in 3 yrs), but I try to be optimistic.

Well, for me, military life was basically just about learning to kill people -- and that's something I had a very hard time coming to terms with. (I ended up in the combat medic vocation, though. ) The extreme deprivation of individual freedom was something I didn't like, either.

Heh, heh... If I didn't try to think positive, I will be a very bitter and stressed-out student already... oh wait, I am a very bitter and stressed-out student, with a dollop of cynism and sarcasm carefully cultivated over the years. I already know how to kill people, I don't need the military to teach me that. Joking aside, I see NS as our nation's way to ensure that if we ever come under attack, our agressors will have to fight tooth and nail before we fall, if we fall.

In other news, I want women to serve NS too. They need not take the same route as us guys, but there are many non-combat roles that women can take, and I see no issue as to why they should not serve. That is the only stickling point I have with NS, why guys only?
