Perhaps you might like to give a timescale for this temporary moratorium. Say a week or two for starters?

Lets not forget that for as divisive a topic religion is, discussing it does provide an opportunity to bring people together and bridge the gaps between different faiths and philosophies. I have a greater understanding of certain faiths and ideaologies directly due to some of the more insightful ideas shared here by members. Certainly being human means misunderstanding may occur, but those misunderstandings dont hafta lead to conflict. Bottom-line is if you cant tolerate alternate beliefs than your own, or cant share your beliefs without belittleing anothers then maybe you shouldnt discuss religion in the first place.

Thanks Dan! As you know, I'd taken my own little 'leave of absence' from the GD because those topics were popping up like toadstools. Instead of keeping to one or two civil threads, more came up almost daily for a while.

I have no problem with respectful, mature discussions but insults and 'anti' type posts designed for heating up arguments instead of exchanging ideas and beliefs do get irritating after a while! Only so many times one can watch that same old wheel go 'round and 'round before getting nauseous.

A breather is a great idea. I hope it helps!

That said, I'll be offline for about 5 days starting tomorrow afternoon. My fiancee is coming into town then. [img]smile.gif[/img]

I couldn't agree more Ziroc. Some of you probably read my apology to Christians thread a couple of weeks ago, and I've been avoiding any religious threads since then.

I've learnt a big lesson from all of this, and I hope that others have also. We are all human beings here, and we all have feelings.

It's the anti-religion threads that actually precipitated this moratorium, fyi. Been a lot of both suddenly but a rash of those and too many heated exchanges. The forum is not meant to be a battleground for anyone who's bored and needs a quick 'argument' fix. [img]tongue.gif[/img]
