Ok another thread looking for replies/thoughts re the subject.
From the cases I have heard about, I just don't actually buy the "smoking" issue. There are some people who did not smoke at all, elderly people, who have just burst into flame. The only thing you can do is try to find some kind of similarities in the cases, and to me, the only similarities that I can see are that said victims were sad/upset/angry in their lives, most spent time in their "own space" alone in the house as well.. Can emotions cause a chemical imbalance? dunno, beats me. Still the subject keeps me wondering, it is not a myth, it actually has happened to many people. http://www.alternativescience.com/sp...ning-issue.htm http://www.crystalinks.com/shc.html http://www.castleofspirits.com/shc.html http://theshadowlands.net/spon.htm How ya doin LOL? Feelin OK? Not feeling hot are you LOL? |

It said on one of the sites that 80 percent of the cases were women I wonder why? Times like these I am relieved to be a guy.

first off, where do you come up with these things?
I had to quit after the second link, this is one thing that just creeps me out, I belive that there is such a thing as SHC, and it could have something to do with being an Alcholic, but there has to be other things to go with it, perhaps it is just Aliens well, enough of that.

Spontaneuos combustion...
I wouldn't want to go out like that. I read story once where a friend of a victim well... spontaneously combusted and the friend went to get water to douse the flames only to find out it fuelled the fire. Scary. My question is do other animals spontaneously combust too? |

Despite the loads of annecdotal evidence I do not believe anyone anywhere has "spontaneously combusted". I believe its a hoax right up there with crop circles, bigfoot, UFO abductions, Psychics and tarot card readers. *He's a skeptic...he's Mr. Skeptic* |

IMO, SHC is a simple case of forcibly holding too much gas in your body. this explains the 80% female ratio, since females tend to not fart in public as males tend to(though i do know females who arent ashamed to let 'er rip when they feel like it!). this would also explain why animals dont spontaneously combust(atleast i havent heard of dogs or cats, or any other animal, bursting into flame), since they do not know shame as we humans do. lesson of the day: dont hold your gases in! itll kill you

As per the discovery channel, they've successfully reproduced a controlled combustion event using a pig corpse, clothing, and a flame source in a replica apartment/house room. The smoldering fire eventually consumed the corpse. It was fueled by ashes and clothing acting as a wick for the melting body fat. Though there was a great deal of very hot air up by the ceiling, it wasn't hot enough to induce charring. It simply melted any plastic items. The bed which the corpse was on charred in the middle, but didn't burn through. The thoroughness that the corpse would be burned with depends on how much fat is available to fuel the fire!
Truth is stranger than fiction! It's rare, but possible under the right circumstances!
