Absolute ditto.
You propose in public, you up the stakes of rejection. If the gamble doesn't pay off you lose prestiege as well as your love. S**t happens...

Ouw... that just sucks.

And it isn't romantic... not at all... at a basketball game?? It makes a public toilet proposal sound better...

Well, I'm not sure what his logic was...

"Well, if I propose in front of thousands of people, you won't have the heart to reject me in public..."

OR

"I love you so much I'm willing to make a total fool of myself in public. I don't care who knows how much I care."

EITHER way, he forgot to take her feelings into account.

Romantic usually equals private.

I asked my girlfriend to marry me in front of 50,000 + people at a rock concert (reading festival)

Ok so we where in the crowd listening to her fave band play her fave song and no one was listening to us but still, better than some crap restaurant down on one knee.

BTW she said yes :showoff

Couldn't agree more. If she was unsure of her feelings this stunt will not do much to strengthen them in his favor. Btw, the article didn't mention if it was a no or not. Perhaps it was not her view of the ideal proposal.

Kind of makes you wonder what script this guy was reading from. Usually, you'd kind of hope that you'd know what the propose-ee would say if you were gonna drop that big of a bomb, at a Wizards game no less.

Thus the reason I'll wait for her to ask me.

I wonder if the crowd was chanting "De-fence! De-fence!" loudly through it all? Yes, I'm sure it was embarrassing, but I think he kind of knew she wasn't into it and was trying to sand-bag her. Now all thats left is for him to wait to be served with the inevitable order of protection.
