I've got the assassins dagger and I have some questions.
1. Do you have to be a ninja to invoke it?
2. Once I've got it should I kill Scanthril (I don't like him!)?
3. I'm sure I've read on this board that it's possible to have multiple assassins but I don't know how to do it. A detailed spoil would be appreciated on this one.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Anyone can invoke the dagger. But it only has one charge. So for goodness sakes sell it back to the shop and rebuy it...this will recharge the invoke!!! and you can invoke to your heart's desire.

Scanthril will not give you anything more of value after you have received the Assassin's dagger. Annihilate him at your leisure. I found that a well placed Meteorstorm kills his whole band in one shot.

To acquire multiple Assassins, enter the Thieves guild with dagger in the inventory of the character who you want to be an Assassin. The shopkeeper will start his spiel about you having the dagger blah blah. Before he finishes his speech, enter your inventory and and give the dagger to the other character(s) that you want to turn into Assassins. Continue until you have all your Assassin's. Remember, once you decline the Assassin role, that character can never become an Assassin, short of 'restarting adventures'.

My L16 Priest/L8 Warlock has had the dagger for a long time now. I am still filling out my spellbooks before I send him on his final path as an Assassin. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks, Detah, but I have given dagger to my two samurai and my three warlocks and in each of their inventories it shows up as "restricted", so they can't invoke it.
Thanks for the tip about selling and buying back. Nice one!
I'll try the trick about switching from character to character in the Thieves' Guild when I have figured out which characters can invoke the dagger.
Is being an assassin much better than being for instance a samurai?

This might not make sense but maybe the "invoke" option is limited to characters who actually got the "job" quest from Scantril! Did all your character get the quest or only the ninja?

Note that the spoil for multiple assassins only works when you have the unpatched game. In the patched game, you can't do anything until the keeper finishes his spiel.

Also, make sure that when you sell and buy back the dagger, you don't try to sell it in the Pawn Shop...

As for the restriction, that might affect those who are not members of Rogue classes. Samurais are probably warrior/bushi, and warlocks are priest/wizard. Just a thought....

And Detah, you don't have to worry about losing your ability to learn spells once you become an Assassin. You can continue to learn, albeit at half your current level (except for fiend and moon, I think). Once you get up to around level 12 to 14 in warlock, I'd switch over. Just remember... the first time you go into a pawn shop with the dagger, it's over.

When I said that anyone can invoke the dagger, I was just not thinking clearly. I meant to state that anyone (from any role) can become an Assassin. But this question about who can invoke it is a very good question. I will start to make a list of the roles which can and cant wield/invoke the dagger. My Bard will become a Ninja in a couple levels and my samurai will become a monk next level. So I will have more data soon. I will post it all. BTW, my list of guild traits/skills is almost complete. I will post it when it is finished as well.
