I'm working in notepad right now (padding .2da files for NWN) the problem is that around line 350 it says I'm out of memory and can't continue with typing, without clearing memory. I quit all programs (I can miss) with CTRL_ALT_DEL but it's still giving that message. I also tried rebooting but it didn't work. What do I do?
why is it giving that errors? cause notepad is only a small program, usually I have NWN, GMAX, DOS, a painting program, NWNViewer on at the same moment and it's not giving any errors |

It's probably a limitation with wordpad. That a very basic probram.
You could try downloading openoffice. I think the website is www.openoffice.org or .com

Just one thing comes to mind. Notepad cannot handle large files. When you open a large text (.txt) file you get a message that notepad cannot open it. The alternative is to use wordpad. Maybe your file just gets too big after 350 lines for notepad to handle.
[edit] Hey Luvian, what's this? Do you type faster then I do. I wrote my last two posts as first reply to a question only to see that you beat me to it by 2 minutes. (See "Throes of procrastination") How can I show my incredible knowledge with you beating me to the punch? [ 08-18-2003, 07:19 AM: Message edited by: Deejax ]

If you are editing large files you might want to look at www.ultraedit.com . They have a free trail version. It is my editor of choice.

I've got a similar question: (Sorry to hijack your thread phillip!)
My comp has 13.9 gb of space. It is currently at 4gb. When I first got my comp, it was faster than it is now. I've deleted heaps of files, and defrag every so often, but my computer just seems so slow. Does gb space affect computer performance? (Specs: 733mhz, 128mb RAM, Windows 98- Don't laugh ) |

GokuZool you really should start a new thread. You will get more responses that way. To answer your question though. There are several parts to system preformance. Try removing everything from your startup group and disableing all of those little icons next to your time. Those eat memory and processor time. Also you might want to try adaware(http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/). Also Norton Systemworks can help speed up the system. Try running Norton Windoctor and Disk doctor.
If that does not help it is probably time to reformat and reinstall. Which will clean your registry. On my personal pc I normally reformat it once or twice a year. That is my two cents. Granamere |

Ditto on the new thread thought. As for my tuppence (what can you do with tuppence?), you might also consider how many background programs you have running. From antivirus programs to spyware and the like, there may be a number of other things running on your system that aren't quite visible. Check the Task Manager to see exactly what's running, and make sure you like everything that's there
