Just interested to see where you pull your names from. I have:
Human fighter named Rand (Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time) Human Fighter name ErinAnkleBane(Erin is GF, we play Tennis and she tends to hit the ball on the other courts, thus the Nick AnkleKiller, but it won't fit, so AnkleBane it is ) A Ratling Thief named Regis (halfling in Drizzt Stories from RA Salvatore) An Omphaaz Mage named Elle Phant A Pixie Mage named Stix One of those Tiger looking types Cleric named Tony. Hi, Black Knight!
Heheh, I'm glad you explained that about your Ratling Thief's name, otherwise I would have wondered, "is that your final answer?" LOL! I like Anklebane! Good background story on that. Tony the Tiger...ark ark! Hm...My names (in the current group I'm running are): Daegen (meaning Daylight in the Norse) a Human Male Fighter-Paladin Gruftyr (again, a good Nordic name) a Dwarf Male Fighter-Barbarian Tamerin (sounds like a good Ranger name; I've always liked the sound of it), an Elven Fighter-Ranger Tzihra (pronounced Jee-ra but with a soft "J" sound like a SH) a Female Whiskah Priest-Paladin. I was trying to get something that would be compatible with the sound a cat would be comfortable with, but still sound feminine and attractive. Sanjay (Asian Indian name), a Male Omphaaz Mage-Warlock (the picture looked Indian, and I had a good friend named Sanjay from back in my college days). Jeroboa, a Ratling Mage (will be an assassin eventually). Mark (Skywalker) was the only one who figured out his name as the performing rat from the Tennessee Tuxedo show from back in the 1960's. Talk about a period piece! Good topic! -Sazerac |

I use a jumble of fantasy names (I read a lot)
I have: Fem Human warrior-bab-samurai named Mirna Male Gourk warrior-samurai named Brourk Male Oophaz priest-warlock named Elerd Male Elf wizard-warlock-ranger named Wirth Female Gnome rogue-ninja named Trella Female Elf wizard-assasin named Gidianne Typically, I group names: Human names are like our own, elf names get lots of dashes and apostrphes (not much room in this game), dwarves get clan type names ( shieldbreaker, stormrunner, etc). Crude orc like races (gourk, Lizzord) get more guttural, simple names. Gnomes/pixies get simple, pleasant names. |

Great thread! I've often wondered how other people named their characters... One naming convention I use is to name them after their class, because it's easy to associate who they are with what they do: St. Just and Angelo are my two paladins, and Fiwesban & Easeis (made up names) are my warlocks. But I'm not consistent, as my third Warlock is called Fury (the only female in the group ... hum! No, I don't want to go there). My barbarian Lizzord is Ssabashs, definitely not consistent with calling but somewhat consistent with race. Hum! I don't think I have a system at all!

fighter - Masher fighter - Stomper priest - John Paul rogue - Shifty wizard - BlackStone (Blacky) wizard - Merlin Been using them since Wizardry 1 on the Apple ][ After that, they tend to have names like THE (Theif), WAR1, etc, or Daisy Mule, Lazy Mule, etc |
