Re: problem at startup
Have any other games given you a similar error (not necessarily the same address)?

Re: problem at startup
Nope, never had any similar problems to my recollection. Maybe a long time ago, but if I had the problem a long time ago, I never had it again until now.

Re: problem at startup
Hi,
try this Ardo123 (read somewhere else that it fixed a similar problem with the game but i've not tried it) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en **Edit just for XP Service Pack 1** I had a similar problem a few days ago when I decided to replay the game with a fresh install; Deep6 would crash with an error on start up. I bodged a fix by copying a back up installation I had from a long time ago which works with no problems! My and perhaps your problem may lie in the default settings of the game...does anybody know if the game starts graphics in software mode by default or rather only in hardware if it can detect a valid card? I ask this as my old win98 install starts up in hardware mode and I made a copy of the installation and managed to recreate the crash by turning on software mode for graphics. Re: problem at startup
Thx bsftcs.
I did a quick bit of research... My fresh install crashes with "The instruction at 00423dba referenced memory at 01920000 The memory could not be written" So hopefully we have the same problem as I have a fix! I found the file gameopt.dat in the root dir of the game folder (path something like C:\W&W\gameopt.dat) and opened the file from both my working and broken installs with a hex editor... The following is all the hex from the file (this is what you will see in a HEX editor) Quote:

If you need more help with hex editing just ask and please make backups first! Good luck! |

Re: problem at startup
Sorry for taking so long to reply but I don't seem to have a gameopt.dat in the directory. Maybe the file isn't made until the game actually starts up.
And BTW i'm using SP2 so that file you posted doesn't work for me. EDIT: My error is almost exactly the same as yours, but instead of 01920000 it's 018f0000 Last edited by ardo123; 12-09-2007 at 11:02 PM. |

Re: problem at startup
I've attached my gameopt.dat file. The file needs to be unzipped into the root Wizard and Warriors game folder.
Hope it helps. I couldnt find the gameopt.dat file on the game CDs so the game must create it. |

Re: problem at startup
Ah, it works. I was going to ask for your gameopts.dat too. You read my mind. haha.
Time to test everything out. |

Re: problem at startup
Well, like i said, it works, but that's for start up. I can make a character and everything fine, but when I click the gate to leave town the little loading box pops up for a sec, then it crashes with almost the same error.

Re: problem at startup
Have you got the Intel Indeo video codec installed?
To check: Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices > Hardware tab Then select Video Codecs from list and click properties, Select properties tab in the new window and look for Indeo codec in the list. If you have not got it you should be able to find it online somewhere. |
