how to: mace of disruption...

what do i need to upgrade the mace of disruption and how do i go about upgrading it? spoilers acceptable

You need illithium to upgrade it. You can obtain the illithium by doing the quests for the Temple of Helm/Lathander/Talos (depending on what class you're playing).

But then doesn't this mean you can't complete the Sir Sarles quest? Or is there a way of getting more illuthium from somwhere?

No, you cant make Sir Sarles make a statue. If you agrre with the substitute, he will notice it.
But when you come and tell Talos/Helm/Lathander that he wouldnt make the statue, they'll just be relieved, cause then they have figured out that they would more like modern artwork or something.

HELPFUL NOTE:

You can start the Sir Sarles quest as soon as you've accepted the Big First Temple Quest. I got the Illithium first thing, moved immediately into chapter 3, and didn't see the Unseeing Eye until chapter 6.

I already used the illithium on Sarles, is there anywhere else to get it?

you take it to cromwell in the docks district at SE corner of the map.
@drewal
Unfortunatelly for you my friend you cannot get any more illithium.
You can use azuredge which has about the same effects (with a negative plane protection spell...)
