I tied 1 for 1 with Desuma Malevois. Good games, though I was under time pressure and didn't play my best. I won under time control for the second, and Desuma Malevois won the first with an unstoppable checkmate.
ADD] Nope, I'll just go 1 for 13. Boy, I played badly those games. I saw at least a couple of times when you could've won the game by force in the second one. [ 07-17-2004, 02:47 PM: Message edited by: Assassin ]

OK, Assassin and I split our games 1:1. Congratulations, Assassin, looks like you won't go 0-14 after all

Yep. You had the game won, but you never were able to convert that extra material into a true won game until time ran out. Which is either a curse or a blessing of time control.
I made some key tactical blunders because I never quite was able to see the whole picture. Instead, I was forced to hit whatever I could. I'm used to 20 minute games, and actually seeing the pieces move. Ah well. CelebroDragon, did the move order look something like this in your game against Jaradu? 1. e2-e4 a7-a5 2. Ng1-f3 Ra8-a6 3. Bf1xa6 Because Jaradu's played that before against me. Heck yes. My opening game stinks. [ 07-17-2004, 04:43 PM: Message edited by: Assassin ]

OK, then.
In our second game, after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Na5 6.Bb5+ c6 7.dxc6 bxc6 your 8.Ba4 wasn't that great. Black has sacked a pawn for a lead in development, and the bishop will be needed to help defend White's king. 8.Be2 is better, although White still has to be careful. In our first game, a Ruy Lopez, it would probably be best for you to stay away from the Classical defense after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Bc5. While it is true that it is considered sound, against the setup that I chose against you, with 0-0, c3, d4, & Bg5 to pin the knight on f6, you generally have to break the pin by h6 & g5, which leaves your castled king's position very loose - it can be very difficult to defend. Try Morphy's defense (3....a6) or the Berlin (3...Nf6) instead.

Thanks.
On a side note, this is driving me crazy. Look at this puzzle: http://www.chessbase.com/puzzle/puzz05d.htm . Does anyone know the answer?

Jaradu, could you meet me on Yahoo right now? In Social Lounge 17?
ADD] Looks like I missed you, so I'll check back periodically to see if you're on. [ 07-20-2004, 08:53 AM: Message edited by: Assassin ]

Illumina, do you have any objections if we go ahead and arrange to play among ourselves without your telling us to do so? It might help speed things along in some cases.
Encard, please contact me via PM if you happen to read this. Let me share a game with y'all that I happened to play on Yahoo a few days ago: desuma_malevois - euma21 [C08] Yahoo! Chess Game, 18.07.2004 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 c5 4.Ngf3 Nc6 5.exd5 exd5 6.Bb5 Nf6 7.0-0 Be7 8.dxc5 Bxc5 9.Re1+ Be6 10.Ng5 Qb6 11.Bxc6+ bxc6 12.Nxe6 Bxf2+ 13.Kh1 Bxe1 14.Nxg7+ Kf8 15.Qxe1 Kxg7 16.Qg3+ Kf8 17.Qd6+ Kg7 18.Qg3+ Kf8 19.Nc4 dxc4 20.Bh6+ Ke8 21.Qd6 Nd7 22.Bg5 f6 23.Re1+ Kd8 24.Bxf6+ Kc8 25.Bxh8 Qd8 26.Qxc6+ Kb8 27.Bd4 a6 28.Bc5 Nf6 29.Bd6+ Ka7 30.Re7+ 1-0 The play in the opening was far from perfect; for example, Black could have obtained some advantage by declining the exchange sack with 13...fxe6 14.Rxe6 Kf7 because White has some problems with his back rank being weak. Nevertheless, I am pleased that my evaluation of White's chances after the sacrifice was accepted proved to be correct. Material is sooooo overrated.
