The challenges you will run into with XP are documented in the Tech Tips thread. Review that prior to playing, apply the suggested fixes and changes, and you should be set.
As for choices within the game, the vast majority of good weapons are swords. Daggers come in second, with staves, axes, and maces a distant, distant third. Nothing else really matters.

That will give me something to think about.
I tried to create a party last night but got a bit confused. Are the points you get completely random? The first Gourk Warrior I made had 4 points, the second had 8, is that normal and what is a good/normal amount of points. Does making them male of female have a major effect?

Well the number of points to spend depend on the dice I guess. I'm sure Radek will enlighten us.
As for your party questions. Remember that you can always add/remove members later on if you aren't satisfied with your party. I would have added one more mage though, but that's my opinion. The virtualdub fix can be circumvented if you install Ace mega codec pack. The required codec is in there. However, note that even with the fixes for 2000/XP you will probably have a harder time runnin the game on XP than on Windows ME. That's not always the case since Windows ME is (in)famous for it's wide variety of major bugs. |

What you need to look at is the total points you got, not just the ones to be assigned. I believe Radek recently posted that 75-80 total points is a good number.
If your first roll was nine in all eight stats plus 4, that's 76 total points. If the second was eight in all stats plus eight, that's 72 points, and the first one is actually better. I don't believe I've seen the character's gender make a difference, at least not until the end game. Make sure you've got at least one female character at the end.

Arrwwww, total points be in the mid 70's makes more sense. Time to get the old calculator.
I guess it could take a long time to get high numbers!!

Adding up a bunch of 6s, 7s, 12s, and 13s is not easy, for sure. Try the lazy man's way: add up tens, and the deviation from it. So 6,7,12,13 becomes -4, -3, 2, 3, making an easy -2 overall. Out of those four scores, the total is 38 (40 - 2).
But I agree -- it can get obnoxiously boring. I tend not to last very long, and as has been pointed out, after a few levels, it doesn't matter any more. About the only thing I'd suggest is to try to make sure all characters are guild-worthy. That's a score of 10 in all attributes except fortitude, which needs a 12. With those scores, you can qualify for any class advancement. Without those minimum scores, you're like the Den of Thieves, who are not-so-patiently waiting for their next level so the last three goombas can join the priests' guild. Just one more ability point and they'll all meet the minimum requirements.

Was annoyed last night, got one with stats in the high 70's but deleted it!! bugger!! most are in the mid and low 70's.
I was looking through that tips thread and one was "everytime you level up, make sure you go the temple to donate the gold. It will increase your presense and sometimes he'll offer you a 'gift' " Does it matter how much gold you donate?

Nope, it doesn't matter how much gold you donate... because you're told how much to donate.
When you mouse over the "Donate" button, you'll see a message on the bottom that says something like "Digger is requested to make a 3257 GP donation". The amount varies randomly, but I've never seen it over 10,000 GP, even in the latest stages of the game.

Has anyone investigated the value of the rewards from donating with the amount being donated? Sometimes you get a potion and other times you get "nothing".

Hmmm... I hadn't thought about that. I'll keep track of what the Den is doing and let you know. They're due for some levelups soon.
