Wow that brings back old memories, Betrayal at Krondor. I loved that game. Actually games, there were two. Was Betrayal at Krondor the one where you had to use tools to unlock and untrap chests, etc.? I.E., ahhh! This chest needs the ratchet!! LOL. Or was that the game that came after?

Betrayal at Krondor was the first, chests were opened with either a key, lockpick (skill check), or by solving the riddle (there were wheels with letters on them to spin to make the correct word).

In the sequel, lockpicking required tools and a bit of user skill. You had to stop a spinning needle within the right range a few times to unlock the chest. Choosing the proper tools made the target range larger and/or slowed down the needle. If you picked the worst tool combo, the needle was spinning like crazy, and the target area was tiny.
