topic.

Are they function only to raise your AC ( while your character is wielding the shield for showing off ) or do your character with shield will really block incoming weapon thrust/jab/whatever ?

Equiping a shield gives you the AC bonus stated on the shield. That's it. I guess the AC bonus is supposed to represent the blocking factor--using a shield you'll be less likely to get hit since you can block..

I think it would be neat if the chance to block and the chance to get hit were separate. I mean, if you block something in real life with a shield, what difference does it make what armor you're wearing? But that's just IMHO

yeah, I notice shields are only for upping your AC only after some testing. it's sucks though they can't block.

Maybe there's a shield blocking animation when you have a shield equipped? There's gotta be someone out there who uses a shield, let us know how it works!

well most of them just have Ac lift to it but some have extra abilities as well.like the dragon shield. give an extra AC modifier against dragons. and something else.

Shields do block... that is why they add to the AC

I've seen plenty of blocking with melee weapons... I'd be amazed if there weren't an animation. I have Linu as a sidekick, and she uses a shield... I'm just usually too busy to watch her in combat. I'll look out for it.

I've never seen a blocking animation in melee. My character does block arrows with it. I've been running aroun with two or three arrows stuck into my shield before.

I use Sharwyn as human shield too.
