In Eve one time I ran into 4 pirates, one of them a missleboat... and to make a short story even shorter I beat them with my shield totally gone and about 6% left of my hull...
I also defeated Duke Nukem 3d with only 3 hp left. I killedSarevok with one member and 8 hp left, kind of like mentioned above. |

One of the old games, Wing Commander I, Secret Mission 1 (or was it 2)?
I was flying a modified dralthi having a hell of a time defending the stupid Drayman (transport). After fending off the attackers, I was to escort her back to the Claw. A couple of Krants jumped us on the way back and I managed to finish most of them except the last one. That tough cookie blow a big dent on my shields and armor and took out BOTH of my mass drivers. Since I have no weapons whatsoever to hit him back, I waited for him to pass in front of me and then hit afterburner. I took some damage from the collision but manage to ram him into pieces. At the end I managed to limp back to the Claw with the Drayman intact. Barely.

The closest call I ever came across was in Medieval total war where I had to plough the majority of all the troops I had to fend of the rampant Turkish war machine. Basically several series of battles in Castile would decide my fate. After losing the first three battles and having to retreat to my castle the grat Polish cvilisation was on the brink of disaster when some final reinforcements including my King arrived. Outnumbered about 7 to 1 we managed to hold the high ground for the first time and weather the Turkish bombardments. The result was within the next 50 years I managed to win the game, it's good to have a story with a happy ending.

I am going to go back in time a bit to Castlevania - The count at the end is very hard, I think I had a half heart left when I defeated him.

Well there were many when I still played BG 2/ToB. The one that I remember ATM is when I was playing a no reloads game and almost my whole party was killed/out of spells. I was fighting a Lich and couple of Mummies. So I was a step away from death when someone ressurected Korgan (IIRC( who killed Lich with one hit becuase he failed his save.

Mine comes from warcraft2. I was playing against a friend and he had rushed my base really early, but one peon managed to get away, and by the time he found my second base it was too late for him.

I remember an online Unreal Tournament game. At that point I was playing it fairly frequently, and always a CTF (Capture The Flag) map with the Instagib mode on. This turns the normal ASMD Shockrifle in an instant killing machine. Think one hit kills and chunky body parts flying everywhere and you're about right.
So I was playing on the same server for a couple of matches and there was this guy on the opposing team who was really good. And the fun part was that we were equally matched me kicking the **** out of his teammates and he kicking the **** out of mine. So whenever we ran into each other there was always this nerve-recking fight, kinda like a futuristic western fight (that's how I imagined it, me saying "Let's dance, you and I", with my opponent replying "You got it, bro") CTF is about 3 captures of the flag, and at one point we were in this very heated battle when he killed me at one point. One of his teammates had just captured our flag and is running to their home base to end the match. I sprint across the entire level, shoot his team mate, and then he picks up the dropped flag and is running the last 40 yards to their flag. I was like "No way! This is not happening". So when he jumped towards their flag, I shoot him from the air, return our flag, and dash back to our base to end the match. The score at the end was as follows: BLUE TEAM : 2 Warpig (ME): 241 Player 2: 99 etc. RED TEAM : 1 Opponent's Name: 233 Player 3: 101 etc. (or something like that anyway. I forgot the exact figures and his name, but it was something like that) The next battle we were put in the same team. Needless to say we dominated the playfield and won the match within 5 minutes. I never saw him again after that UT-session, but it was a memorable moment, that's for sure.

Ah, now you reminded me of UT. I liked playing CTF with a LastManStaning mutator which gives you a finite number of lives. And either Instagib or Volatile(weapons and ammo explode when hit) mutators. So, anyway, my people suddenly start dying with Volatile mutators on Face_SE, and I was going all "WTD!?". The score being 4:3 for me, and it was me and this swedish guy vs 4 more. Then, I came up with this old tactic of rushing to get the flag, and then going to the tower where he just teleported so he can blow me away with his rocket launcher back to home base. I score, 5:3 for us, the dead guys suddenly start cheering with audio taunts and messages. My ego rose

There are loads more stories from my side concerning UT, involving battles with my flatmates on Assault maps with the Instagib mode on, online CTF battles in very small rooms (adrenaline to the max, I assure you!) Aah good memories!
