So that no spoiling occurs no names are used in referring to the guilty.
I've played many times but this was a first for me. While attacking and killing a red dragon, both "Yoshi" and Keldorn were not only killed but wiped from all memory. Scrolling back through the text it stated: Red Dragon: red dragon breath: Keldorn Keldorn: 59 hp damage Keldorn: Death Now I realize that big hits can be expected from a wyrrm. I just didn't realize that red dragon breath, in effect, disintigrated an opponent. Even if this is true then why did all their equipment remain. The icon disappeared from the screen. There was no body or body parts, yet all the equipment is there. Has anyone else experienced this before? |

Aah. The problem isn't that it was Red Dragon Breath specifically, it was because of the high amount of damage. When a character is reduced to less than -10HP, he is permanently dead, and cannot be resurrected. This could happen in any situation when a character takes extreme damage.
The moral of the story is to not let your characters get too low on HP, lest they be permanently 'chunked'.

Read the bottom of his post though - there were no body parts. Still, it sounds remarkably like they got chunked. Could it be that Mr. Firecam got chunked as the breath started, finished "chunking" during the breath and his chunks disappeared?
PS: Never used so many variation of chunked in such a small space.

Or maybe Red Dragon Breath has some property that doesn't chunk the body but burns it into little pieces

Thanks for the input. I feel really proud. I've played off and on for 2 years and this is the first time I've ever been that dead. I'm mean I've been dead before, but not really dead, dead.

this is a notshowed feature of the AD&D rules. if a char takes more than 50 damage from a single attack there is small chance he/she is permanently dead. thief-like attacks don't count as well as any attacks done by you. only the computer can do so.

Well, it is not only shown, but documented in the Dungeon Master's Guide:
