We are currently considering upgrading from windows ME to XP.
However, I do have serieus doubts to this.
Can anyone inform me about the advantages and disadvantages of windows XP over Windows ME?

I have never used ME, but XP won't work with any of your old games, unless you go on the internet and download patches galore! My friend had XP, but changed back to 98 because it was better for games in the long run. Of-course, if you don't play many games... Go for it.

Define old games please. And I also heard you need at least 256mb RAM to use XP.

Basically anything older than 2000, some work - not very many!

You need 128, but 256+ is HIGHLY recommeded!

It also depends on the manufacturer. Some companies don´t bother to make patches for winxp. Sims (the worlds most sold game??) isn´t supported and maxis don´t give a s**t! But then the same was said about win2k (running that myself) and so far I´ve been able to get every game to work...

I've been running XP for about 8 months now and haven't any probs whatsoever, I'll recommend it

I'm running it on threehundred and eighty something RAM and it goes sweet, some progs take a while to load but I thinnk that's more to do with my PIII 550

As for old games, I've been able to run every single one that I've tried, from doom (yep, the first one ) to Ascendancy (one kew game, even if the AI is dumb as )

The new control panel/start menu/way of doing things does take a bit of getting used to but once you do I doubt that you'll go back.

Just a coupla cents from Phil

i've only found one game i couldnt run, that was tony hawk 2, but that wasnt the most *ahem* legal copy so i wouldnt base anything on that. all my other games work fine. And i have a lot of them.
Plus it fixed a lot of problems I was having in Me.

I believe MSDOS-based games cause serious problems with Windows 2000 and XP... One of my friends was unable to play Warcraft II, for example. And the Windows version of it had driver problems...

We have 128, works a treat (also is enough to work great for NWN ). I don't know about games, since we've only installed civilisation and NWN on it. But it canes Win 98.
