The Iraqis had transformed the hospital into a command headquarters and staging area for irregular Iraqi troops. No medical personnel or patients were in the former hospital.

Marines found 3,000 chemical suits at that former hospital as well as 3 canisters of Atrophene (sp?) which is used as an antidote for some chemical/biological weapons.

British soldiers found several sites with soldiers who had gas masks.

Seems that the Iraqis are preparing against chemical attack.

Do you have a source of the report? It sounds disturbing, the find of chemical suits...

Sorry, but I've seen it on MSNBC and CNN. It's been reported several times on both networks, but I don't have a link. I'll look though.

Why?
The US has far more anti-chemical equopment then the Iraqis, are you worried about them? I own stuff that would get me through a chemical attack, are you worried about me?

Noooo .... unless you are planning to use NBC wpns anytime soon.

The implications for the Iraqi Army is much different though. We have no intentions of using NBC attack (though reserve the right if provoked). Therefore, the Iraqis should not feel a need to stockpile/defend against it. The only reason they would want a defense is if they planned of using them, since they will be the only ones to use the wpns that they don't have.

If their staging at the hospital is actually true, it's amazing just how far the Iraqi militiamen are willing to go to totally disregard the rules of warfare.

I guess rules of civilized war don't apply to the Iraqi paramilitary guys.

So you're saying the Iraqi Army should trust us. Somehow I doubt they would. Not saying they shouldn't, you understand.

I don't think the US/UK would plan on using chemical weapons, as that would be an unmitigated disaster for their cause. Even if the Iraqis were to resort to using chemical or biological weapons (I suspect that Bush/Blair must be secretly hoping that they would - this would vindicate them), the troops would respond using only conventional munitions. No need to resort to nukes, chemicals or germs, as it would be proof that Saddam had been lying all along, using weapons he claims he doesn't have.

Frankly, I didn't expect anything less from the Baath regime. It only cares for the Iraqi people as means to stay in power.
