Are xzar and montaron any good, like r they useful later on for quests or someting?

They are the same as every other character.
Their "usefullness" depends on what tactics you use, and other party members. But, if you analyse them individually, they are both quite good. Montaron is useful as he elimates the need of Imoen, and also gives you that extra bit of tank as well. Xzar, is ok. He's not as good as Edwin, due to Edwin's items, but still decent. If you don't mind them being evil, then go for it.

They have an interesting interaction in Baldur's Gate, but no quests or anything.
