Hi Cloudy, yes I appreciate the single response protocol. In this case however I was quoting three different posts of Grungi's, from a couple of different pages. As I read a post, I replied. Accents are relative. One does not hear ones own accent. So to someone NOT from California or southern England, either accent is strong. To someone from the American South, or Northern England, their own accent is NOT strong. It's all relative.

On the Aussie matter, I am unmoved. I am Australian and lived in Australia for 29 years with time spent in every state except Tasmania, and I can assure you, the New Zealand accent is noticable to us. What more can I say?

Finally, your new point of Cockney being "a whole way of speech" is precisely what I was referring to. It is not a "whole way of writing." You cannot discern an accent from writing.

As a matter of interest, Australian English has it's origins in Cockney.

I do it myself, so does Memnoch on occasion. It depends on when you see a post and whether anyone answers in between sometimes. It's natural to answer as you read things. When I first met Charlie I had a bit of trouble understaning him but you get used to it. I can even understand some of his cockney slang every now and again. Hey Charlie, have you been drilled about this lately?
