Just applying to them to become an engineer, was wondering if anyone works for them or knows anything about engineering at sea.

They're Britains biggest shippiing company.

First things first - Get the name right

It is Maersk (Mærsk) - a Danish company

It is the world's largest container shipping company and also has (super)-tankers, supply-ships etc.

By enginner I assume you will be working in the engine-room?

I worked for them for a short time as an officer-in-training (but stopped after I found out how incredibly boring sailing is)

Yeah, the spelling thing was my fault! Hate Scandinavian spellings, they are all SO awkward!

I dunno what I'll be doing yet, jsut an engineer it said. Hmmmmm.

I am familiar with Maersk as I used to test software for a government ocean-going booking system, and Maersk was one of the carriers that contracts with the US military.

I had thought they merged/were bought by a larger carrier, Sealand and is now "Maersk/Sealand."

Beyond that-- don't know much other than they're supposed to be a decent outfit.

I presume you have already found the corporate website, so I won't insult your intelligence by telling you to look there

My own experience is limited to one of the group companies called Salamis. IMHO, they are good, but not cutting edge.

All the best

I loaded a lot of seacontainers from Maersk, but i suppose that has nothing to do with this.

Officially the were merged - but in reality Maersk bought Sealand (the larger bought the smaller)

Well, I sent them a letter and a C.V, and got an application form back. I've now just got to write a 200word essay, and send it back into my old school to confirm results.

It will be posted by 5pm tomorrow. Then who knows how long it will take for me to hear from them.
