Just saw the info saying that Dungeon Siege, Arx Fatalis, and Morrowind will be getting boards here on IW soon. Does this mean by omision that Might and Magic won't be getting a spot?

Not that I'm any where near as psyched about MM9 as Morrowind, but it would be nice to have a board to get feedback from people on there take of the game.

Anyone else think a MM9 board would be welcome?

Well, M&M is a good game-series, indeed, but I do think that the 'Misc RPGs'-board that's coming will do.

see ya!

As a devout MM fan (both the Heroes TBS series and the M&M RPG series), I would also like to see a MM forum here at the IronWorks. If they don't, though, it's not a total loss. The 3DO boards are quite good, and I've always used them to help me out in the inevitable case where I get stuck once or twice and can't advance while playing a game and don't feel like buying the strategy guide just for one hint.

I would like to give a reason for why there SHOULDN'T be MM boards here, ever since MM6 the MM series haven't really been RPG's, more like FPS games in disguise, your skill at dodging enemy projectiles is more important than your stats at most points.

I don't know whether this will change in MM IX, but in MM VI, VII and VIII, it has been so.

Just because the game is in the first-person perspective doesn't mean that all you are doing is dodging missiles. When was the last time you were able to stop Quake (or whatever, I don't keep up on the latest FPS) and go into turn-based mode?

MM has rich and developed skill, equipment, and spell systems. The game is very well balanced as well. The only flaw was is MM8, when you could put dragons in the party and the game became a cakewalk after that. But show me a game that DOESN'T have problems with balance at some point.

What I always thought was the most cool about the games was being able to fly or walk to the top of hills and look down and see a whole plain full of hobgoblins, wyverns, or whatever between you and your goal, and realizing you will have to fight them (gradually, not all at once) or find a way around them to get what you want or where you are going. It's a sense of perspective that I've found lacking in every other game I've played.

In M&M 8 you could have a dragon in your party. I loved that. I also liked the card game ArcoMage.

Does anyone know if ArcoMage is in the new game?

(I guess I'm in the minority...I liked M&M 6-8. Not every game has to be a deep CRPG.)

Going into turn-based mode might be possible, but it is not an advantage in any way, you're actually giving away an advantage by doing that as you can no longer dodge enemy ranged attacks.

I never said that I didn't like the games, and I actually thought that having a dragon in your party was cool in MM8, but I still don't think that you can honestly call them RPG's.

I didn't like dragons in the party, for the game balance reasons given earlier.

I guess I don't understand the definition of RPG then. Does every RPG have to have the deep character interactions like BGII? I guess IWD wouldn't be classified as an RPG either, then. Granted, DII is more of an adventure game, but there are RPG elements there as well.

I think an RPG is just defined by the ability to develop your characters, which you can do in MM, by increasing skills, stats, and spells. Also, being able to interact with your environment is important. In MM, when you complete a quest, it is done, and the environment changes (remember the castle in MM7?) Monsters stay dead, as well (for a couple years of game time, anyway...eventually game areas get repopulated). Also, you have to worry about time, particularly for when shops are going to be open, or when transports are available.

I think what you're really saying is that you don't like the first-person perspective, which I agree with. I don't play Doom, Quake, etc. anymore because of motion sickness. Even with the slower speed of MM, I still get sick sometimes. And I hate third-person, that's even worse. The best is the isometric perspective of DII or BGII, although that does limit your field of view.

I liked the M&M games. Just some of them, actually, but the ones I did like were great fun all the same.

Wonder if M&M9 will be editable like Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights and Dungeon Siege. Sure hope so!

I've played all but the last individual modules (campaigns) of Heroes of Might and Magic but not the M&M crpgs. I think the misc. board might cover that, but again I don't know the crpg version at all.
