North and South Korea appear to have reached agreement in principle about ending the North's nuclear programme. Representatives of the two countries met for talks in the Chinese capital Beijing two days before the resumption of the six nation talks on the controversial issue.

Pyongyang reportedly accepted South Korea's offer to double its supply of electricity to the North in return for ending its nuclear programme. However, the North Koreans are also demanding a gesture from the United States.

Pyongyang wants to normalise diplomatic relations with the US and a definitive peace agreement to replace the armistice signed at the end of the Korean War 52 years ago.

Agreed. They (S Korea) can't actually believe that they (N Korea) will end their nuclear programme for something as small as a doubling of electricity??
