I was talking to someone I know from school yesterday about very very big numbers (don`t ask ).
Eventually, we got to one google (ten to the one thousand), and the googleplex (ten to the one google).

He didn`t know what a googleplex was, and so I told him that it is ONE to the one google.

For the not so mathematically inclined, 1 to the x is *always* one, regardless of the value or direction of x.

He still commented that one googleplex is a VERY big number.

Boy will I enjoy the look on his face when I tell him

Ah.... Yes... That’s hilarious... Do you by any chance happen to have a sense of humor?

Hmm yes that is funny. I think I'll go tell my 4 year old cousin about that one to one google thing and laugh when he doesn't get it. Chortle chortle

Actually my brother is always convincing me of things that aren't even remotely true. Like once we were watching golf and some guy called Gilligan was playing. And I'd never heard of a golfer called Gilligan and my brother told me that whoever was leading a golf tournament was called the gilligan... and I believed him. He did go to an awful amount of trouble to convince me, but still...

While we're on the topic of really, really big numbers, could someone tell me what a billion is?

1,000,000,000

or

1,000,000,000,000
