My dwarfen fighter/cleric has just reached level 6 as a fighter but I've noticed that I can't get any better than 'specialised' in any of my weapon categories (ie. can't put more than two stars beside a weapon). I thought multiclass characters gained all the advantages of each class they are in, which for a fighter means being able to become a Grand Master etc,? Is this just a fact of the game I'm going to have to live with, or has my game got a bug by any chance?

Unfortuantly it is the nature of the game. Dwarven F/C are a great combo. The only problem is that BG1 has limited magic weapon selection for clerics. One of the biggest criticisms of this game is how it heavily favors the Fighter class.

Multiclassed warrriors cant get past specialization in weapons. If you want to become a grandmaster you can dual a warrior to whatever, that way youll be able to get 5* in a weapon. Also, if you dual from something to warrior you wont be able to get past specialization neither (i think, im not sure about the last one)

When you dual, you regain all of your old proficencies.
Well, at least in BG2 you do, i haven't played the originally through for a while now, so i'm slightly rusty on it
