Uhh lawyers are yammering that the police are harrassing peaceful protestors for no reason....umm they are smashing windows, throwing smoke bombs at the police, Jamming major traffic routes (endangering anyone in need of emergency assistance) defacing buildings, trashing news paper vending machines and running around naked....ok the naked thing I can let slip she didn't look too bad...oh and they are making crank 911 calls...oh yeah very peacful these lunatics.....I just found out that the largest group isnt even the socialists against capitalism..its the anarchists. Just another lovely thing to make my commute longer than it needs to be.

Bloody tree hugging hippies. Back in my day youth had more respect for their elders...

Well sometimes the ploice is too rough to prostesters who ARE peaceful. There have been many events in Canada alone where protesters who were just standing outside the G7 meeting holding up signs were attacked by police and violently removed.

I agree with, or at least sympathize with, most of the messages put out by the protestors. But, as Magik pointed out, it's those who show up to a protest not because they believe in something but rather because they want to break things that cause problems. These people don't have opinions or points-of-view. They simply love to cause carnage - the same damned anarchist group that showed up in Seattle with ball-pen hammers and started all the problems. I guess my point is we've got to realize there are at least three sides at play here: those being protested, the protestors, and those want to cause trouble. The ones who suffer from this are the protestors, whose messages get drowned and discredited by the actions of unwelcome ne'er-do-wells.

I know Magik, I've been hearing about these protests all day. Ridiculous to me. If people really want to protest an issue, doing it this way will get them nowhere. Nobody gives respect to those who act disrespectful to everyone and try to instill chaos in a community. Utter waste of time on their part, nobody is listening to what they are protesting about, all we are doing is thinking to ourselves "what retarded idiots, somebody needs to get out the firetrucks and hose em all down."

as someone who has been beaten and has had to cope with cops pretty regularly (in various countries in europe, and in argentina) i have to say there is no excuse for police brutality. why? because they are the law, so no matter how bad the protestors behave, the police as a force are the ones that have to show restraint. when they are attacked there is no comparison between what they take and receive. unarmed protestors against fully geared riot police with armor and shields. so dont give me that "they are attacked they have to react".

oh, and to those laughing at the pic, its quite obvious youve never been on the receiving end of it, or you wouldnt talk about it so lightly. i really wonder if some things that are said on this forum sometimes would be said face to face to someone. id be amused to hear a commentary about the police needing to beat up people more in front of me and my friends. the one saying it wouldnt be so happy, probably.

Well I guess it's how one looks at these kinds of situations/protests. I agree police shouldn't physically brutalize protestors no matter what, but when they get to the point when they are violent and destructive, and making FAKE 911 calls, they should be stopped in some way, i.e., my hose comment. I don't condone beating anyone, but these people have to be stopped somehow, and when a cop walks up to them and tries to subdue them from starting some tires on fire that may end up spreading and burning an entire city, or from vandalising buildings and shops that innocent people own who hasn't done anything to anybody, and they react violently, there isn't much choice but to try to restrain them in whatever way they can, and lock them up temporarily in jail. Sorry the 911 calls really got to me, I mean people are dying from stab wounds, heart attacks, traffic accidents, etc., they have only minutes to be saved and some bastards tie up the emergency (911) lines, and that person may die because some guy wants to make his "statement" which basically ends up lost anyway amidst the chaos. Think about it, what if it was your mom or dad who died cause the 911 calls didn't get through, or the ambulance couldn't get to their house cause people decided to block traffic (innocents on the road who have nothing to do with the protest at ALL) and it couldn't get there in time to save them. Sorry, but protesting in a way that hurts others deserves the same thing in kind.

I've been at the receiving end of the cop batons. And I say these idiots deserve to get the crap beat out of them. Beat the fools I say. If I was there I'd do it myself
