of Elves and Long Swords...........

Hi all,

In the race discriptions upon creating a character, it says elves get skill bonuses with long swords and bows. What exactly is this bonus? I've created an elven assassin (level 8) with a STR of 17. Her THAC0 is 17 base, 16 with STR bonus, and 15 when using a weapon she is proficient with (since they get +1 to hit and damage as a kit), although this THAC0 remains at 15 whilst wielding a long sword, so there doesn't appear to be a to hit bonus with the weapon, although I did see her deal out 10 damage to an opponent using a long sword (8 from weapon, 1 from kit and possibily a bonus 1 from being an elf?? they wern't using a ranged weapon so there's no damage bonus from that). Can anyone please elaborate on the to hit/damage bonuses they recieve using these weapons?

Elves get +1 to THAC0 with longswords, shortswords and a few other sword-type weapons. So your assassin's THAC0 should really be 14 while wielding a longsword. Perhaps the THAC0-bonus from the assassin kit isn't implemented? There are a few oversights like this one. For instance, the bard-kit skald is also entitled to +1 to hit & damage with any weapon, but they don't get it too.
