You are right Valknova
(welcome to Ironworks ) But betting can be, and is, rorted often. So while it should be legal it sure as hell should be strictly controlled. I do have my doubts about gambling and alcohol though. The two do not mix well IMO. [ 10-24-2004, 07:00 AM: Message edited by: wellard ]

Hi wellard & thanks for the welcome. You're right, gambling is very addictive for some people. There's a huuuuuge media ****storm @ the moment here in the UK over these new changes in gambling laws. One of the two biggest Las-vegas style mega-casinos is gonna be built here in Leeds (by an American Las-vegas billionaire called something like Maphianizzio) , probably near me ( I live in the citycentre).
The biggest problem I can see is that people here have got credit cards which make it SO easy to get money in the short term. Here in the UK the news this week is that people here now owe a total of one TRILLION pounds on their credit-cards and store-cards.A lot of those people will end up in jail because they can't pay back the debt, some of them will even make the 'angels flight' off the roof of some tall building just to escape the nightmare future their CC's have got them into. It is hard to see how relaxing gambling laws here and building ten new palatial casinos will help the debt. But ho-hum. It doesn't affect me personally tho' coz I don't gamble.Hell I don't even drive, or have a credit card!

Yes Leeds has changed a lot ,especially since the 80's when it was S O G R I M . lol. We've got a Harvey Nicks here now,and everything !! *swoons* Lots of pretentious wa**ers sitting in cafes and Med-style bistros LOL. This new gentrification doesn't impress me one little bit, I think people look really stupid eating prawn canapes under a designer parasol in the middle of a huge grim industrial city!! lmfao. But I'm glad too, because they bring lots of money up from London, which means the area I've lived in since '78 (Woodhouse) gets lots of rebuilding+repairwork.
