The Concorde is a direct flight -- no stops. Yet when he arrived in New York, she was there to pick him up. How is this possible using current technology (no "Beam me up, Scotty") ??
his concorde flew the long way around the world to ny, she took one that went the short way?

Concorde dosent have the range to fly the long way round. Not many planes can beat concorde in a one way trip either.

However, concorde flies from london. If the airport he was dropped of at was Aberdeen ( for instance), he would need a connecting flight to get to concorde in the first place. If his wife flew direct she might be able to get there first on a slower aircraft.

Or:

Shes the pilot. She dropped him at the passenger side of the terminal, went to her car and drove to the pilos section. At New York, she gets through security faster and can pick him up.

EDIT. No, that wont work, She sees the plane take off so she cant be on it.

Final solution. A meeting requires him to fly from london to new york. Therefore he will at some point have to fly from new york to london.

The meeting is in London. He flys out, has the meeting, flys back and his wife picks him up.

He lives in New York, flew to London (where the meeting is). His wife saw him off from New York, and after the meeting he flew back from London to New York (hence the wording of the question), and his wife met him off the plane.
Ok. Let's assume Freda's birthday is the 31st December. Today is the 1st of January, 2003; the day before yesterday was the 30th December, 2002. Next year would be 2004.

30th December 02 - she's 17.
31st December 02 - she's 18.
1st January 03 - she's 18.

30th December 03 - she's 18.
31st December 03 - she's 19.
1st January 04 - she's 19.

So, when the 31st December 04 rolls around, she becomes 20.

Here is one that's pretty standard.

A man lives on the 10th floor of an apartment building. When he leaves his apartment, he always takes the elevator down. When he comes home, he always rides the elevator up.

However, he only takes the elevator to the 10th floor if there are other passengers on the elevator. If he is by himself, he gets off the elevator on the 7th floor and takes the stairs the rest of the way.

Why?

Cos he's a shortass. He can only reach the 7 button. You forget that if it is raining he has an umbrella, so he always rides all the way up when teh waether is inclement .
