Question Mark

News story is found here.

In short, these border-conscious citizens are going to "help" border patrol agents by looking for illegal entrants themselves. Although their heart might be in the right place (trying to help keep their border secure) this is very, very close to vigilantism. A moderate degree of vigilantism is acceptable, so these folks need to take care not to overstep the bounds of common sense.

So you pay your taxes, and now you are requested to become vigilantes?

Something not right with your government.

The official border patrol is worried some of these volunteers might want to become vigilantes. IMO as long as the volunteers limit themselves to calling the law when they catch an illegal alien and simply holding the alien until the law shows up, I think they'll be a lot of help...

Damn, these last two post' have a LOT of REALISM in them.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye, I concur with both Sir D, and Shamrock of UK (I presume that is not UK as in across the state UofK Wildcats)?

I have freshly cleaned shotgun, rifle, and a dirty 4 wheel drive.

Yes, by reducing or even stopping agriculture subsidies, we would have no need for low wage workers. But, how would that stop the infiltration of terrorist' into the country.
OMG, they will cross our open, unguarded border, and act like poor, 3rd world low wage farm workewrs. But.....

Sometimes, Mr. De'Briago, one must keep oneself wary of one's own government or act in spite of one's government.

I don't see that there is any request from the Government, that we pay taxes too. I see there are some citizens of this nation that of their own free will have decided to help law enforcement, enforce some of the laws of this nation. All so for has been done in a legal manner.

If you had seen any of the videos taken by private land owners on Arizona's borders (literally tens of thousands of illegals a year walking through their front yards on their way to "freedom") you might think this could be a good idea taking into consideration the strain that border agents already suffer.

I don't have a problem with Mexican nationals becoming citizens through legal channels just like citizens of any other nation but when illegals think they are so above the law that they'll NOT go through legal channles but rather trapse across your land, your own front yard, and wave at your video camera it changes everything.
A lot of these illegals are NOT poor farmers looking for their american dream. They are drug dealers, rapists, thieves, prostitutes and murderers; people who more likely than not, would be denied entry; people we don't want living in our cities' alleys or abusing resources meant for honest poor people.

With the proper legal channels through which to work, these volunteers can do this country a lot of good.
They won't be catching one or two at a time though, these people travel in packs by the dozens (1 or 2 normally). The small number of illegals who cross in smaller groups (3 to 6) are usually caught. The mindset there is that with a dozen or more some will make it, some probably won't if scattering becomes necessary.

They need to shut that border down now. And instead of the border patrol, they should have an actual armed military force. Arrest anyone caught coming over the line, and shoot those who run for it. Do you think that the corrupt Mexican government let's people cross their southern border illegally? Hell no. So why should we? And Mexico must be forced to stop protecting criminals who hide there.
