Just wanting some general info on half-dragons beyond what is in their entry in the Monster Manual. For example:
How would the average adventurer react to the prescence of a half-dragon (First reaction)? What would the backstory be behind a half-dragon? What would be their status in the grand scheme of things? and any other tidbits you might know. Just curious. NWNs prestige class is really what got me thinking on this one. Thank you.

You could call Draconians, from the origional Dragonlance Novels... Half Dragons. They were quite interesting and a very origional concept. Check them out

To sum up your questions in general, playing D&D for a long time and experimenting with the game, how adventurers would react, what 'role' a half dragon would play in the scheme of things is up to you. Have them play a vital role of a villain in a module, PC's can try and reason with them, it all just depends how you and your group want to run things.
The origin of half dragons are commonly amongst evil societies, red dragons shape changing into humanoid form before going to bed with someone, you get the idea. Statistics on them, I don't know where to get them because I don't think they exist in 2nd or 3rd edition D&D. |

I'll make Faerunian references here, but otherwise it's good info.
First reaction? Depends on what color dragon... A silver or gold half-dragon might make an adventurer more inclined to trust, while a red, green, or other chromatic dragon might lead to distrust. A backstory? A silver dragon fell in love with an elf. As silver dragons often take the form of elves, this is not beyond the realm of plausibility. Or maybe a red dragon took the form of a human and seduced a paladin. The paladin fell from grace and the half-dragon serves as a constant reminder of the paladin's fall. Status? A half-dragon has the potential to be great... but there are unsavory types (the Zhentarim and Cult of the Dragon come quickly to mind) who might attempt to corrupt or exploit the half-dragon for their power. Others (The church of Tiamat comes to mind) might revere or kill them (depending on what color they are). If they survive assasination or corruption attempts they might become sorcerors (any color), paladins (gold, silver, other metal), blackguards (chromatic), or just about anything else they set their minds to. Ooh, that's gold for character development... I recently made a CN sorceress for similar reasons. While angst sometimes gives me a squick and I feel like I might be perpetuating cliches, there's no denying the value of a character "flaw."

Average adventurer's reaction? Well I know that in any D&D game where I met a half-dragon or dragon I had a 50/50 chance of shoving our fighter (or the nearest dwarf) towards the dragon and trying to shoot it with arrows (the dragon, not the dwarf) or just running away (thats what my characters are now famous for).

Shouldn't knock that, Shadowhound.. It worked for the Knights of the Round Table.

I had my group fighting a group og Halfdragons that are guarding the main villians lair, they are kind of shocktroops, one of the member really wants to fight a dragon but they are still only level 4th so it's a bit early so this will have to sate his appetite for now You could also check out Draconomicon from Wizards of the coast, both the second edition and 3.5 edition, it has plenty of info on Halfdragons. |

Thanks guys, for sating my curiousity.
*Wonders at the possibilities* This might actually get me into PnP D&D. (Especially 3.5 ed., where the character possibilities are only as limited as your imagination.) My curiousity was sparked because I kept running into the idea of Half-dragon characters in the games I'm playing.(NWN, IWD2 though the half-dragons in that game didn't have all the abilities that half-dragons are supposed to have.) So once again thanks guys.
