Who is the weakest link???

In my opinion, the bard is as lame as they come - prancing around with lute and harp. No shame!!!

Comments please...

There isn't any. Or rather, each player has to determine what strategy works best for them at any given time, and limit their party accordingly. I've played with each of the party NPCs, and used a variety of fighter, thief and mage types for my own PC: the game was great, and a different experience every time.

I will admit starting out with a Bard might seem pretty rough (so are Mages), but Bards are also very fun to role play (part Fighter, part Mage, part Theif. FYI I have'nt even used the Bard Song in BGI or BGII, I was always fighting or casting spells.

If you are needing a challenge maybe you should try to role play one of the weakest links. Weakest link, can't really think of one, but the Monk looks challenging.

weakest link would be a beastmaster with minimal stats.

The weakest link is the one you don't want to play.Even the afore mentioned beastmaster could be fun and challenge for some and a total loss for the others.

A Bard is like a Cleric: not really a fighter but able to fight, able to back-up a party. I'd never put a bard in point position (unless he was an invisible Jester singing his confusing song).

Try playing a Skald and see what his song does for your party's combat skill. If you have ToB, play a regular Bard or a Blade -- you'll not get the same effect out of his bard-song until 24th level, but then you'll be amazed.
