Well, sorta.

In my latest game, I got Anomen up to 4 stars in Slings. I really focused on getting him missle ready.

I am gaining a new appreciation for Ano... I sorta liked him as a Cleric/Tank before... Found him slightly annoying, but, he did his job.

Now, as I have found, Anomen is a BRUTAL archer. Er, slinger. With DUHM, Rightious Magic, Holy Power, what ever I have ready to cast, clerical spells that add damage and THAC0, I can bring his strength to 25 quite easily... Then the Sling of Seeking comes out to play. I can bring his THAC0 into deep meaningful negative THAC0. With the right clerical buffs making sure each shot does maximum possible damage, and, the fact Ano is frequently saying "TAKE THAT!" and getting criticals it seems on almost every shot, he has become the bullet slinging gatling gun of casual head trauma. Lavok the Necromancer said his speech, and, did not even get his protections up, Ano beaned him right in the eye and said "TAKE THAT!" and killed him in one shot. He was also able to one shot kill a really annoying Nishruu I was doing my best to keep it from touching Imoen. (My Nishruus eat items just like they are susposed to) In another fight (Trying to avoid spoilers) There was a Lich and a Beholder. Ano took one shot, and, suddenly, there was only a Lich to worry about. (Nobody else had shown up front yet)

Anomen might be a good tank... but he makes a better archer. I highly recommend everybody give it a try.

LOL...Take that Lavok!!! Maybe we could improve on this technique? Isn't there a throwing hammer or sumthin? I think it might be dwarf only but I know it does 2d4 damage. Theres got to be some other ranged weapon besides a sling that our boy can use. Slings are just so...lame. IMHO

Or a brutal SLINGER. HE can't use bows, remember?

Oh, and be sure to give him the gauntlets of Dex to make him even better, okay?

Ano has the Gauntlets of Dex, and, if you notice, I do mention him as a slinger. He also has the Pale Green Ioun Stone.

Slings do not suck. They get the str damage bonus added to the roll. With the right clerical buffs, adding damage, THAC0, etc, plus, the added strength damage, plus, the +2 bullets, plus, the Sling of Seeking it self, I have Ano doing over 40 damage a shot, and that's not critical damage. That's just average damage.

Butterfingers, you have to be careful when mentioning your damage rolls, since I think you know as well as I do that the Macintosh version of BG2 acts funny in that aspect.

Righteous Magic means maximum damage, and using your Sling of Seeking and Bullets +2,

Bullet +2: 7 damage
Sling of Seeking: +2
25 STR: +14
Grandmastery: +3

Total = 7 + 2 + 14 + 3 = 26 damage per shot, NOT 40

Others may feel free to try and fill in the missing 14 damage.

The same goes for your Crossbows. The numbers are just whacked on the Mac version. Enjoy them while you can, because those who use the PC version have the proper damage dealt to the target.

I just had a theory, but I will need your help in conducting the test, Butterfingers.

Make two Human Blades, one with 15 STR, and the other with 18 STR. All other stats must preferably be the same. Make them both proficient in Crossbows and set the difficulty to Core.

Use normal light crossbows and normal bolts. Activate Offensive Spin and make them shoot each other.

Make a note of the damage they deal to each other. Post the results here. Thanks.

If my theory holds true, the Blade with 18 STR will deal +4 more damage than the one with 15 STR.

I think I know where the added 14 damage is coming from.

Just a guess mind you, I can't prove it.

I think the strength bonus is being added twice. I mean, it makes sense. With 25 str, 14 is the exact damage adder. There is a missing 14 points of damage in the equasion. So, I am thinking something is bugged to make the strength bonus double somehow. I will have to tinker around to see if I can prove this.

As for your crossbow test Dundee, I have already concluded that str bonuses do indeed apply to crossbows as well in my game. I still could not explain the crazy damage rolls, but, if my theory is correct, as I mentioned above, the strength bonus being added twice is what is causing my missle weapons to become bazookas of mass distruction.

In a non buggy situation, heck, even 20 some odd damage is nothing to sneeze at, from a sling.

Hmmm thinking about it... This is why my darts do so much damage as well. I have long sat and wondered how I can do so much harm with a dart... Or my missle weapon Kensai.

Dundee, do you think it is possible my theory is correct?

That was the exact same theory I had. Formulating a theory is one thing though, theories backed up with evidence is quite another. It just glared upon me how the numbers seem to match.

In any case... the only way to further verify this is to run an experiment on a Mac. Since I do not have a Mac, it is up to those who do.

After the Crossbows, try to do the same for normal slings with Bullets +1.

Note! Must be Bullets +1. Normal Bullets ignore STR damage bonuses.
