I looked back through the forum history and found this topic but was unclear so here goes

Poss spoiler info so dont read unless you completed game

I recently lost my little doggie I was given (as a ranger char)
There was a thread about Nishruus eating magic items that have charges
But from what I gather this was pre-ToB install

I installed BG2 then ToB right after so none of the patches were for post ToB.......

That all make sense?
Does anyone know is this bug still about post-ToB
Is there anyway of fixing it
Does the doggie actually only last x amount of times before its gone for good?

Thanks in advance if you can make head or tale of my confusing questions

Hmm, I think youre talking about the moondog-figurine.
I have used this a bunch of times, and it still exists, so it doesnt vanish after using it.
And for the Nishruu, its correct that they dont take your items anymore after installing ToB. Now, I dont know whats happened to your doggie if you had ToB installed.
Maybe you just simply lost it.

see ya!

Something like that happend to me once. I'd given the bag of holding, with a slew of expensive and useful magical items in it, to Viconia, whom I was romancing at the time. After a while, when I needed something from the bag, I checked her inventory, but it wasn't there anymore, for no apparent reason. Heh, typical girlfriend: "He doesn't give me any respect, he just uses me as his packhorse. Well I'm not taking it anymore, I'll just dump this thing! That should teach him."

But seriously, it seems that every once in a while things just dissappear from your inventory. Doesn't happen often. Just CLUA it back in, or use ShadowKeeper.

I almost lost that moon dog figurine many, many times. What I noticed happening - and I'm not sure if this is what has happened to you or not, is that whenever I used the item, and depleted its charges, it disappeared from my inventory, only to return once I rested (thereby replenishing the charges). Now, I'm one of those people that constantly runs around with my inventory full, so when the game tried to place the figurine back into my character's inventory (rather than in the quick-slots where I kept it), it dropped to the ground because my inventory was full, and of course, I - never remembering or even realizing this happened, rarely noticed the thing sitting on the ground. This was just the way the game handled items with charges (that replenished when you rested).

I do believe, however, that this was changed - either in TOB, or in one of the more recent patches. You might want to check the TOB manual for the list of what changed with the expansion and find out whether this is one of the things they've changed (I seem to have misplaced mine, all I can seem to find is the quick reference card).

I can tell you that the moon dog never runs out of 'charges'. It has a certain amount of charges per day, and resting always replenishes those charges. I can also tell you that the above scenario used to happen to me *all* the time, and it might be what has happened to you.

If this was the case, chances are you're probably not going to find it again (unless you're really lucky and happen to wander by the location where you originally lost it), so as someone else already suggested, you're probably better off using CLUA Console to create another figurine. It won't mess your game up or anything. =)
