BTW - most of the following post, I stole from Kylotan at the bioware forums, because he described it so well
Ok, both sides are using the patch 'bg114315.exe', and the DirectX patch. The Baldurdash text update and the baldurdash bugfixes are also present. I'm hosting a game on dialup, and the other side is also on dialup. Both of us have DirectX 8 installed. Basically, the problem is that every so often, especially after area transitions or during fights, the other player seems to get partially disconnected. By this, I mean that she can send chat messages which I see, but she does not receive mine. Additionally, she does not see me moving my characters. And when she attempts to interact with objects such as doors or locks, she sees no response. In other words, from her side, there is no apparent activity from me/the server no matter what I do. She usually has to quit the game and rejoin. Are there any suggestions as to what this could be? Or how to fix, alleviate, or work around it? It could be just dialup causing a lag because it is just horrible to play any game through dial-up. If you guys had DSL or cable it may actually correct this problem. With dial-up I have often been disconnect because someone tries to phone me while I am online, or just get cut off for being slow. Suffice to say I have not tried multiplayer BG but I now have a cable connection so Starcraft is much better to play, no disconnects, or lags.
Now with the area transitions sometimes can take really long even in single player. Anywere from a few seconds to 15 minutes. It makes me so mad when it takes 15 minutes for an area to load for no reason when the last time I was there it was only a few seconds. [ 11-01-2002, 04:52 PM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |

It ain't my connection, or hers. Bg2 is far more demanding, but works impeccably. Also, In BG, if there is *any* dialog at all, that seems to sever the connection between the server and the clients too.
Thanks for trying to help, though
