Hi, I've had IWD for a while but never really got into it. Can you recommend a party that would make the game interesting?

Hi Horatio!

I like the Jim Carrey thing, VERY funny
If I was you I'd try to make LotR characters- Gandalf, Frodo, Pippin, Merry, Sam and Aragorn.

All the best, BlakJak

One of the things I like about the game is that the option to create and control 6 characters allows me to both play familiar classes and to experiment at the same time with one or two classes that I do not usually play.

Druids do quite well in IWD, especially if the expansion HOW is installed, and I would definitely recommend including one into the overall mix of your party.

As was said before, a druid is good. But make it a muti or dual from a fighter. I prefer multi. Also don't make a full thief. Allthough you can use a thief from time to time, so make it a multi from a mage. Paladins get some interesting dialogue trees aswell but they are not necessary. I went with the following party and they did quite well.
paladin
ranger
fighter/druid multi
cleric
theif/mage multi
mage (conjurer)

If you want you can sub the ranger for a bard if you like to play with more magical parties.

For me the thing that I loved about IWD (and somebody has already stated this) is the fact that you could make up your entire party. So to make it fun and interesting I used every race available. Here was my party and I had a ton of fun:

Dwarf Fighter

Half-Elf Ranger (though Rangers take too long to level up; should have gone with another straight fighter)

Human Cleric (I was glad for this character)

Halfling Fighter/Thief (easily gained high percentages plus had fighter hit points in the mix)

Gnome Cleric/Illusionist (this is one of the very best support combinations in the game; saved my rear end many times)

Elf Fighter/Mage (another great support character; great one-two punch with the Gnome.

* Combined I had 4 Fighters, 2 Clerics, 2 Magic Users, and a thief.
I made sure all fighters had bows and my clerics had slings. Thus,
every character could use range weapons before my Tanks (the dwarf
and half-elven fighters) went toe to toe with their melee' weapons.

If you want a good mix of characters try making 2 tamks a fighter(multi-class or just plain 'o fighter), paladin or a ranger 1 mage, 1 healer, a cleric perhaps or even a druid and someone that could detect and disarm traps like the thief or a bard that could save you money in identifying items

my party is composed of:
Paladin
Ranger
Fighter
Thief
Bard
Mage

you can choose your own mix of characters that can prove to be useful for you in the game....
