I'm chuggin'through the troll caves outside of Port Llast, but I'm having a little problem. I'm not using any henchman (yet!) so I tend to lure enemies one or two at a time when I can. I usually back up a bit before they get to me, then when I am sure their friends are too far off to notice, I attack. Almost always, I "overrun" my target, creating an "attack of opportunity". They don't usually hit me anyway but it is becoming a little annoying and I worry it may be a problem for me down the road. Any ideas? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

There are feats and skills that allow you to avoid attacks of opportunity as you advance in level but no, this is normal. Basically if you do anything that is not combat when faced with a hostile foe you will provoke such an attack. The Mobility feat will help you avoid them while the Spring Attack feat will render you immune to them, although I'm guessing you have not got SOU.

Tumble skill will effectively nullify AoO if you have 15 ranks in it. And if your not wearing heavy armour. At 15 ranks, it also grants a not insignificant +3 AC. Again, you need SoU for this skill to be available.

Thanks. I have NWN Gold so SOU is installed but I haven't played it yet. As long as I know it is a feat-related thing and not some dumb bug, I'm fine with that. Even with stud leather +2 with an AC of 20, trolls and ogres don't get many hits in.

Attacks of opportunities while moving around can eventually become a problem if your AC is not up to par with the enemies AB, especially if you're fighting rogues or any other with sneak attacks. If you have SoU installed, then the feats and skills from it should be available in plain vanilla NWN as well.

What class(es)/level(s) are you? Seems to me that the simplest solution would be to get yourself a henchman.

You should be able to get the appropriate feats and skills since you have SOU installed, regardless of what OC you are playing.
