Yes this may be a contender for dumbest question of the year but I'm going to ask it anyway. What does lol mean? I know it means somethings funny but what is it short for, lots of laughs?

Hi Sigmar :

LOL = Laugh out loud
ROFLOL = Roll on floor, laugh out loud
and
ROFLOLWP = Roll on floor, laugh out loud, wet pants.

RudeDawg has an even better and longer one that I can never remember, but he is lurking so I expect him to help us out .

Hello Sigmar, and Davros...

The subject of Net Speak is interesting...

The UNB Saint John Ward Chipman Library claims to be the forerunners of it, but I believe that it all started at MIT...

This is UNB's list UNB's list

I'll get MIT's later...

What Davros is mentioning is my own addition to the ether...

a simple, short phrase that is quickly taking over the Net, and will SOON be as popular as LOL...

LOLSFHKASARLMSFLBP => LAUGHING OUT LOUD SO FREAKING HARD KOOL AID SPOOGED AROUND ROOM LIKE MONEY SHOT FROM LOW BUDGET PORNO

Use it often!

Hi Dawg,

If it's taking off so fast Rudie, then how come I never seem to be able to remember it no matter how many times I see it about?? . How's the weather in Texas this morning - seen any Donuts - Memmsie and I are on the lookout for cinnamon sugared treats .

Well, Davros...

It's after 4 AM here... And I'm REAL close to running to Krispy Kreme for a dozen....

I must admit that it is a mouthful, but I DID sumbit it to the USENET for inclusion on several lists...

BTW, here's the EEF's list... The Elecronic Frontier Foundations' list of Net Acronyms
