Just an open-ended question, are Harper Scout levels worth it?

Or are they just a monumental waste of time no matter what build you're going for?

(lol) In other words, I believe it to be a TOTAL waste of a potentially good Class choice.

As much as I hate to say this, I do believe it to be a total waste of time, energy, and hard drive space...I tried one, and found no practical use for it.

I've had quite a bit of fun with a Paladin/Harper Scout. The Eagle's Splendor ability obviously goes quite well with the Paladin's charisma-related boni, Invisibility can come in handy from time to time, and the other stuff, although indeed only moderately useful, adds a bit of flavor to you run-of-the-mill vanilla Paladin.

You can do a lot worse, character-wise, both from roleplaying and powergaming points of view.

Under very specific conditions, they may be slightly superior to other classes. But usually, no. Not worth it.

In fact there are only three reasons to play a harper scout.
The first is to find out for yourself that it's not worth it.
The second is because the module/DM either requires you to play a HS for storyline reasons or grants them additional bonusses beyond what the prestige class offers.
The third is because you're on a quest to make the least potent high level character possible.

Adding fighter and/or COT levels to a paladin makes a lot more sense.

Meh, you only get 5 levels of Scout anyways.

So then you can add COT levels after that.

(Would have liked to see the Scout having more levels to it than merely 5.)

Wasnt the HS a last minute replacemnt for a different prestige class that got nixxed? Or was it nerfed in order to conform to WOTC and 3ed rules?

I recall reading something like that somewhere a long while back when SOU first came out.

Actually Harper scout is alright for only 5 levels if they are taken in Epic.

1) they get great dex and great cha as epic bonus feats

2) Their buffing abilities (tymora smile etc) stack with other spells.

I have used those 5 levels in 1 or two builds in EFU and they turn out pretty well.
