I hope taht at least some of you will find time and try some of my favourites concertos:
Jean Sibelius - Violin concerto D minor op. 47 Felix Mendelssohn - Violin concerto E minor op. 64 Tchaikovsky Peter - Piano Concerto no1 B flat minor op. 23 Antonin Dworak - Violin Concerto A minor op. 51 Max Bruch - Violin concerto no1, g minor op. 26 Tchaikovsky Peter - Violin Concerto D major op. 35 It is not that I am crazy about violins, but some people can do really incedible things with violins, and if there is an orchestra ... Try some symphonies of Sibelus, Medelssohn... To Fljotsdale and Silver Cheetach: have you read "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess? I love Beethoven too , but not 9th Symphonie, rather others and his Piano Sonats, some of them are perfect. I would kill for Appasionata. (Btw did you know that in early 20-ties in Soviet Russia only Beethoven was allowed and only because of Appasionata - Lenin liked it too, it is very revolutionary ) Zbyszek

Somewhere around here is a thread with links to streaming music and internet radio broadcasts.
I remember finding a fantastic link to classical that you would no doubt enjoy. I must don my special gear and go thread hunting today! Violins...*sigh* |

Ackk... for some reason I cannot really listen to Beethoven's Ninth anymore either after having read Burgess's novel
And "Singing in the Rain" is nasty too

I dont like classic music very much. The closest I get to classic, is the movie-music from Gladiator, which actually is pretty classic.
And Mel, singing in the rain, I love that song! "I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain. What a glorious feeling, I am happy again." |

Heya Lord Exxon
Do you remember music from "Apocalypse now"? The scene when they fly in a helicopter over rice fields and have that huge loudspeakers and broadcast music over all area? It was overure from the Richard Wagner oper "Die Walkurie" called The Ride of the Valkyries (no need to mention to you what the Valkyries are). For me it was great (accoustic and emotional) experience. Zbyszek |

quote: Hehe, I have never had enough patience to listen the whole Wagner opera. I tried with Loehengreen(?) and Parsival, but they are too long and I prefer rather symphonies and concertos than operas. But I like overtures

Yes I know which one you mean, think it's called Lohengrin. Personally I agree that Wagner's operas can get tedious, but they are exceptionally long-winded of course, and there are lots of Mozart operas for example that I can listen through to the end without getting bored.
