You're right, you may need a seperate thread. The two don't always attract the same crowd.

And Rammstein is better during live performances on CD, IMO (from what I see on the live video's anyways). Their music was "cool" when I just discovered it some years ago, but it gets a bit tiresome very soon. Continuously hearing them use a blunt axe in their music (in a figure of speech, no idea if that saying survives in the translation ) is very boring in the end. Not much of a renewer, Rammstein.

Maybe it's just the difference between bands who continue to evolve/improve themselves, who are more interested in inventing NEW things, and bands who just do the thing they're good at, without much increase or decrease in the quality of their work. Both cater a need, I think

Of course... Never change a winning formula, right? And Rammstein can still pull it off to release almost the same album over three times because the first two never reached its complete potential among the crowd... New people are discovering them every single day, and they won't really care if Herzeleid sounds about the same as Sehnsucht, it's all equally new to them anyways.
Though I think Rammstein are reaching the top of their popularity now... Meaning they probably have to do *something* renewing with their next album to keep the public interested... Else their popularity will only slowly drop again.

Yes, very much so, one of my favourite bands in fact.

Hence the lyrics of "Rammstein" and "Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen": it's just the usual flirting with provocative subjects for shock effect and, to be fair to them, to make people think.
Ah, whoops, my mistake, I know that's not how the whole thing is pronounced, for one thing there's more of a "sh" sound after Ramm- but I meant that I absolutely hate it when people pronounce it Rammsteen, just one of my little trairs.

P.S Cheers for the background info, I remember hearing some time ago something similar to that but in not nearly as much detail, but I forgot so just put the word definition.

umm, please do not talk about that. just because i said heavy metal(i really dont know much about genres..), everybody indiviually tells me its not. Talthyr already said that. then RimJaw, then Hunter of Jahanna, then you.

i really dont know much of a diffirence in Death metal, heavy metal, industrial and stuff like that. there are so many similar genres.

Well, here's some examples for distinction.
Heavy Metal- Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Judas Priest etc.
Death Metal/Black metal(maygbe not classified as exactly the same by everyone, but )- Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Cradle of Filth and the like.
Industrial- Some Trent Reznor, Rammstein and Gary Numan.

Anbd I'm not quite sure what you mean by similar genres, if you mean heavy metal and industrial- trust me, there's a world of difference.

Actually their latest album Mutter is slight departure from their usual stuff, its a bit more mellow, with tracks like 'Mutter' and 'Nebel' which are almost ballads. The album still has their usual headbanging stuff though, with tracks like 'adios'.

Oh, but there's a BIG, BIG difference. Just compare stuff like Immortal, Emperor, Darkthrone and Burzum to bands like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Suffocation and Death. World of -musical- difference between black and death... in their origins as well (even though I'll readily admit they both qualify for a description along the lines of "bloody awful damn noise" ). So to you

Oh and I wouldn't call Rammstein strictly industrial either... they may have industrial roots but they certainly have a big influence in metal as well. But then again, I don't really believe a lot of bands *can* be accurately classified...

Rimjaw, you're right about Mutter being slightly different (though there were ballads on the previous two albums...). I think it may be possible for them to use a more melodic approach (incorporating samples of female vocals like they did before, etc.) if they want to evolve in the future.

Heh, I suppose I could have expanded on that, but after a ponit it wouldn't be categorising them, more just describing.
You're right about Rammstein not being strictly industrial, they are very metal style, but most think of them as industrial, and they can also do some different things, I quite like there more ballad-ish songs, liie Mutter, and I'd like to hear them try some new things, as long as they retain there original quality.
