During character creation theres an option to input a diety name. I just wanted to know if this actually does anything.

No, ist just to add to the fun. Like if you wrote your sub-race as drow, your deity would be Lolth, or in Drizzts case, Mielikki, lady of the forest.

I wrote in Torm as my deity. Would be cool if this actually infected the game.

i think it's one of those things that can be affected by modules that people build, for instance there are some mods out there (waiting a while for them to get polished up) that can give the bonuses from subraces if you enter that for your character

I found it amusing, personally, that I made my first character a Paladin of Tyr then found out I'd be effectively working for the Tyrran church for most of the game.

It's just for personality. Maybe Bioware thinking for the future? There may be plans to add more domains and the special rules for different types of followers. I chose Tyr as my diety the first time too.

I was seriously tempted to write "Bhaal" but decided in the end against it... chose an elven diety, I forget which...
