Not annoying at all. Its clearly stated in the manual and during character creation that monks and paladins don't take money. Its also in the game dialog the first time you have your P or M try it.

They reject just about everything that is given to them for doing a service. So it pays to be careful in certain situations by having another character lead IF they are going to talk to the first character they see. Also, sometimes your paladin won't give you an option other than to chop someone's head off...which while you can continue in the game can be bad juju.

Hey, I know it's a case of RTFM. But the charactoristic was different from prev versions and caught me by supprise. I happen to find it anoying because my paladin is a char that I considder a "Slot 1" char (good fighter, high cha). My other char with a high cha is not a "Slot 1" char (wizards die fast up front). It's just something else to remember when talking to people.

Ugh it so is annoying! My main is a Paladin and yes its stated in the manual but...but...every single gold piece refused! Although when Priests and Paladins are at home in their temples they never seem to refuse a 'donation' no matter how big a sum it is Okay, okay maybe the cash I can understand but damn don't Paladins know what a gift is? *sigh* Guess not.
I've gotten used to sending my thief to collect rewards now and she aint afraid to demand her due hehe. The one thing I don't like tho is when I get my main character (Paladin) to talk to somebody and the conversation takes a sharp twist and suddenly we did some major favor for someone and heres a gift - and then I refuse it ...grrrrr

Paladins don't refuse all rewards, sometimes they accept some, and sometimes, the people insist for you to take the reward.

Guess it drives home the point of saving often. Reload and send in another character for the goods!!!

Or, you could always roleplay it, and just deal with refusing the reward ... cause sometimes i forget and let my pally talk too :_)

Playing as my favourite monk character I thought this was going to kill me in the beginning, but no more....I have 60000 in the bank just lying there (at ice palace currently) cause the monk does not need to buy most things. (nor armor, weapons necessary)
