Ah, Japanese pop music.
I know a very cool Japanese black metal band, called Sigh. Does that count? Also, Crimson Glory (no relation to Crimson's alias, I guess) does some pretty good death metal.

~LOL~ I dunno why but Chinese and Japanese pop stars seem to be into anyhair colour but black ~wry grin~ unless it's one of the "elegant" ones. I personally rather like having raven black hair *preenz* ~gglz~

Chinese pop I adore "Zhang Xhing Zhe" ! he's amazing!

but Japanese pop... hmmm... well I like the tracks for Fushigi Yuugi... does that count?

J-pop = Shonen Knife, Ayumi Hamasaki, Speed, and... that's all I can think of.

Obviously I'm not much of a fan of J-pop...

Utada Hikaru if you consider her J-pop...

some other bands I dunno... if you also put in the soundtracks of anime into the j-pop category then i would say them, but since i am not a japanese, and don't really listen to other forms of j-pop well that's all i can say

J-pop... Isn't that the kind of music normally associated with Japanese Anime? The awful "sweet" bubblegum-like popsongs they use for those series?
Oh, and as for what kind of Japanese music I know of... Well, there's Cornelius, but he's specialized in avantgardistic dance music, not really "j pop"...
