A really stupid question

with items that can only be used by certain characters, why, on the weapon description, does it give you a long list of who can't use it rather then the one or two who can. For example musical instruments which can only be used by bards it lists every other class for unusable rather then the one for usuable. Anyone know why?

It doesn't say
"not usable by anyone except Bard" but rather "not usable by any class you can decide on during character generation except Bard"
what I'm trying to say is that if some character came along who was no Wizard,Sorcerer,Fighter,Thief,... but something completely else he could use the item even if he was no Bard.
This is just a wild guess however and should be tried to verify. I haven't installed BGII at the time (actually I lost my disks *sob*) but maybe somebody else would be willing to test this theory by [Ctrl-Y]ing e.g. a Troll or Fiirkrag and try to have him wear the Melodic Chain?
