Anyone here that was on Prodigy in the very early 90's? The DOS 5.0, and 2400 Baud modems? I remember after working real late at work 2am I was 17 and I'd get home and log in to Prodigy (this is when it was unlimited access for 9.95 I think)

I'd log in, and go to the 'Clubs' section and click on the Games forum, and we hada group of people that hung out in this one topic (and kept it alive a LONG time--2 years) it was called "AD&D Comp CRPG -Ask Slash n Lord Murdok" I remember MANY times I got help from them to beat Pools of Darkness, Eye of the Beholder and many others.. This what when getting 'email' was a real BIG deal.. (Remember when it was exciting to get email, it was like getting a present or something...) I miss those days, but Prodigy went Pay per hour in 1992 or 93 and EVERYONE left and canceled their services.. me too.

Anyone else? BTW, Prodigy was 16 colors and 640x480
PS: And Packard Bell was the #1 seller of PC's (PUKE!)

Compuserve here, not Prodigy...but I do remember those days! The bone age of the Internet!

I also remember the good ol dial-em-up BBS's. They had some good gaming ones around North Texas at the time!

I remember Prodigy. Had a GF who had it. One of my first Web surfing was done. It was soo cool back then. I would hate it's speed now.

2 for Compuserve, but I had a 300 baud modem. Loggged on to local BBS's mainly, and the USENet. Remember the actual AUDIO-coupler? place the phone handset into the modem??? weird... Oh, and a casette tape recorder instead of a hard drive or disks...

It's the reason this 32 yr old still goes by the juvie name of RudeDawg, I had it back then, and still get messages from some of the old school... "Are you the same RudeDawg that used to live in S. Texas?"

Yep

Cripes, I've only had a modem for 3 years.
Good job too, my phone bills are phenomenal!

Oh yeah, I know about BBSes!! I myself ran one Called the Great Escape and RPGNet (yeah I know, someone ripped me off) way back in 1991-1994, I got aroun 70 callers a day with 1 phone line! I became the most popular because I ported usenet Newsgroups over to WWIVnet. I used WWIV too (World War 4) the name of the BBS software.. Their was also Wildcat, Renegade and Robo bbs..

Ahh, the days of 2400 baud, then 14.4 USR Sportster modems came out, and I loved it!

Ah, yes, the good ol' 2400 baud modem...didn't we think it was totally trick! Then came the 9600 baud, then the 14.4...

now I'm on at 768K DSL! How times have changed.

And when you try to tell youngsters about those days, they look at you like you dropped out of another universe. "DOS?" "BAUD?" "What's THAT?" You begin feeling like an alien species of cockroach, LOL!

Cool, Ziroc, so The Great Escapes has been around for a VERY long time, huh? Goes back to BBS days. Too bad about RPGnet...that's the Web for you.

Cheeky young whippersnapper! DOS was lovely. Just configure a front-end menu for ALL the games you could want. Rarely would the PC pop. Now we have Windows multi-media and everybody crashes - good job here is no parallel in the car industry, eh?

Gosh, I remember Prodigy. In fact, I think it was the first internet service I ever had. And at that time, thought it was absolutely the greatest thing ever.
