Saving during the final battle

Okay, all you hackers. There must be some way to save your games during the final battle. I'm getting tired of having to fight Melissan I and II battles over and over again before getting to III. Any cheat codes for saving after some of these struggles?

? You can save normally so long as you are not in sight of any enemies or engaged in combat/conversation( including the final battle).

What message did you get when you try to save the game?

For instance, after driving Melissan away during the first battle, but before going over to chop up the air elementals at the pool to the SW, I tried to save and got the message "you can not save at this time". Can you save at this point?

Are any of your summons( if any) engaged in fights? Have you tried waiting for about six seconds before trying to save again?

ADD] And yes, you are allowed to save at this point.

No, I've always tried to save immediately after Melissan leaves, and haven't tried to save afterwards, just hurried on down to the pool. I will give it a bit more time next time and see what happens.

That did it! I tried to save as soon as Melissan had left (as soon as I got green circles around my party again) and I got the "can not save" message. So I waited about 4 seconds and tried again. That clicked.
