Can anyone give me a short explanation of which monsters fall into the following two classes? A few examples of each would suffice.
Aberrations Outsiders

An aberration is a a creature that is sufficiently monstrous and strange not to fit into the more "normal" categories such as beast, vermin, dragon, humanoid, ooze and such. The beholder is probably the archetypal aberration. A great floating sphere with a mouth and a big eye. You must agree that they look kinda strange.
An outsider is a creature native to another plane than the prime material (or ethereal). Outsiders can literally be all sorts of creatures. From the almost human, to the completely strange. Genies, angels, demons and such are typical outsiders. While elementals are considered a subtype for themselves for practical reasons they are really just a specific kind of outsiders. The classification begins to be a little strange when the campaign moves to somewhere else than the prime material. Planetouched are a class of creatures composed of crossbreeds between primes and outsiders. They can also be all kind of strange breeds. From the aasimar, tieflings and genasi (crossbreeds between common humanoids and celestials (aasimar), demons (tieflings) or genies (genasi)). Far more powerful entities of this kind exists too. There are also a great amount of elemental/faerie crossbreeds.

Thanks. A nice explanation and exactly what I needed.
There is no planetouched option in the racialtypes.2da file, only outsiders and aberrations. What would be the best classification for an assimar then? Outsider? [ 06-06-2003, 05:28 PM: Message edited by: Micah Foehammer ]

Thanks to both of you. I needed the classification for some custom portrait files and the portrait.2da file. Thanks again.
